GHMP Art Book Fair 2026
The sixth edition of Prague City Gallery’s Art Book Fair will once again showcase a selection of the most interesting publications in the fields of art books, artists’ publications and zines The accompanying programme, conceived by graphic designer and musician Martin Hůla, will be held this year under the motto DO IT TOGETHER, viewing culture as a living and collaborative process. Visitors will therefore be able not only to take part in discussions throughout the weekend, but also to get involved themselves – through drawings, texts or ideas – in the wider programme, working together to create publications, a special font or open-source tools that will continue to exist long after the festival has ended. GHMP’s Art Book Fair will take place on 19 and 20 September 2026 at Troja Château. Admission will be free throughout the weekend.
Once again this year, the fair will showcase small independent artists’ publications, artists’ zines, comic strips and poetry collections, alongside major publishing houses, galleries and established art magazines. This year’s nearly 100 exhibitors will represent an exceptionally diverse range of practices and backgrounds – artists, publishers and projects will come from Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Norway, Turkey, Hungary, Poland, France, the UK, the Netherlands, the USA, Mexico, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, India, Taiwan elsewhere in East Asia.
“It’s incredible that this is already the sixth edition of our fair and we can still offer not only a selection of books but also new topics for discussion. The world of books has many layers that are constantly evolving and inspiring new topics, which are worth highlighting here,” said Magdalena Juříková, Director of Prague City Gallery.
Accompanying Programme: DO IT TOGETHER
This year’s accompanying programme has been curated by Martin Hůla (alias Bonus) – a sound designer and graphic designer, musician and expert in Czech post-war book design. He is interested in how culture is created today and who its creators are. The reality is that, although at first glance it may seem that a book is created by a single author, the font designed by a single typographer and the illustrations by a single artist, every work rests on the efforts of the many people who came before us and those who work alongside us.

This year’s Art Book Fair is not merely a place where you can browse and buy books or get to know independent publishers. It is becoming a space for collaborative creation, sharing experiences and exchanging ideas. A place where culture is not only presented, but also created.
“Throughout the weekend, visitors will be invited to become part of the process. Not to create perfect works, but to add their own small mark. It is precisely from these individual contributions that collaborative publications, installations and open-source tools will emerge, and these will continue to exist even after the festival has ended,” says Martin Hůla about the programme.
The music programme represents another layer of shared cultural experience and extends the DO IT TOGETHER concept into the realms of sound, listening and collective attention. Rather than taking place on a traditional concert stage or as a separate festival programme, the music programme takes the form of a headphone concert. Visitors can borrow headphones and listen to DJ sets, live sound collages, sound art, experimental music and ambient compositions.
“This year’s fair theme, ‘DO IT TOGETHER’, perfectly captures what we have long been striving for in Prague: to see culture as a living, shared process. The GHMP Art Book Fair at Troja Château demonstrates that a book or a work of art need not be merely a static object to be viewed. It is a platform for meeting, sharing ideas and creating collaboratively, in which each and every one of us can take part. I am delighted that Prague is hosting an event that breaks down the barriers between artists and the public.”
In line with the main theme and artistic focus of this year’s ABF, the GHMP Eco-Studio will offer three specialised workshops throughout the fair, which will also be suitable for children: Haiku, Shared Patterns and Collective Zine. The Image and Text workshops will offer a playful and creative interplay between text, font and image. The art workshop Japanese Bookbinding and Prints will introduce Japanese bookbinding as a traditional method of hand-binding a book block.
Another highlight of the programme will be a project combining art, dance and music. The SE.S.TA Centre for Choreographic Development, in collaboration with GHMP and Art for the City, has developed a project entitled Dance in the Gallery: Labyrinth. A dance performance by Kristián Mensa and Hana Polanská will take place alongside the sculptures Ungrounded by Stanislav Zábrodský and Circle With Many Centers by Jakub Choma.
Bring old, take new! In the château’s foyer, visitors will find a small library where visitors can swap art publications or simply browse them. There’ll also be refreshment stalls and food available at Bistro Karel.
About Martin Hůla, creator of the accompanying programme:
Martin Hůla is a Czech sound design and graphic designer, musician, composer and expert on Czech post-war book design. He has long been actively involved in cultural self-reliance and the DIY scene, sustainability and the independent distribution of artistic content. As a composer and sound designer, he focuses on creating music and sound for theatre, film, television, radio and new media. In the past, he first became known in the field of alternative music with a rap project called Bonus.
He is involved in running the Prague-based platform Synth Library Prague, which facilitates the sharing of electronic musical instruments, provides access to technology and fosters education and critical thinking in the fields of electronic music and sound art.
In the field of visual arts, he specialises in graphic design and the theory of Czech post-war book design and typography. He created and curated a series of exhibitions focusing on book design and typography entitled Books Are Hard to Exhibit.
